Tom Mentzer has nearly 30 years of strategic public relations consulting and media relations experience in a wide range of industries. An award-winning writer and seasoned business-to-business communications specialist, he has worked in the professional turf and ornamentals care, insurance, hardware, petroleum, retirement services, automotive, and consumer packaged goods industries.
The deep experience, insights and objective viewpoint Tom brings to his clients was honed during more than 15 years in the advertising/public relations agency business with such firms as CMF&Z (a Young and Rubicam agency), Swanson Russell and Barkley. Tom founded Mentzer PR Group in 2007 and counsels several companies; either directly with their communications staffs or with their agencies, to create and execute strategic, forward-thinking and results-oriented public relations plans.
Currently Tom serves on the board of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, and is a former board member of the Greater Kansas March of Dimes and the Kansas City Academy. He is also a member of the Arts KC marketing committee, and is an active member of the International Association of Business Communicators, Kansas City Chapter.
Tom loves his wife, his dog, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the New York Jets, the Chicago Cubs, the Kansas City Royals, books, the local art scene, the Kansas City Lyric Opera, a good glass of Scotch or wine, pocket squares, bow ties, interesting socks, and a frighteningly eclectic range of music. On weekends he can be found swinging a tennis racket, running, digging in the garden, or digging divots in a golf course.
